The Magnum Intrepid HPi is a “performance-training shoe” that takes its cue from the best trail running shoes on the market. The Intrepid HPi was developed by Magnum to meet the training needs of law enforcement and military personnel.
Magnum offered to send me a pair to test, and I jumped at the chance. I’ve had them for about four months, and I believe I have a good handle on how this shoe performs. Enjoy my video review (plus see below for more information!)
The Intrepid HPi shoes are very comfortable when running on pavement, dirt trail and on a field. They offer good support and are lightweight. During the four months I have had them, they support and cushioning do not appear to have “worn down” or worn out.
I mention in the video that these shoes are very breathable. These shoes really impressed me with how cool your feet stay. Every time you take a step, you can feel air movement. I found my feet were dryer and cooler than when I wore my normal New Balance running shoes.
The features built in to these shoes include:
- Exclusive dual density Vibram® outsole easily handles a broad mix of terrains
- Lightweight TPU shank supports the foot while protecting against rocks and road hazards
- Molded toe cap protects the foot and the shoe
- Reflective safety details
- Microfiber collar lining
- Comfortable, removable, contoured footbed
- Extremely breathable synthetic tongue and upper cushioning
- Dual-density midsole with a 3D counterbalance keeps feet stable while running or jogging
- XCm seamless upper design with heat seal overlays decreases the chance of blisters
- ion-mask™ nano-technology surface enhancement repels water and lets materials dry quickly and remain breathable
- Seamless Upper Zone Engineering (S.U.Z.E.) upper design mixes weave patterns to mold to the contours of your foot
Are the Intrepid HPi shoes perfect? No, but they are very good training shoes. One of the things I would like to see is the addition of different widths. Currently, they are only available in the “normal” width. I prefer a wide. To compensate, I got the Intrepids in a 1/2 size larger, and they were perfectly comfortable.
The Intrepid HPi is available in the black and silver color scheme seen in these photos on on the video. A multi-cam version is scheduled for introduction this month also available. MSRP on these shoes is $160.
Additional information on the Magnum Intrepid HPi shoes from the company:
Inspired by the most technically advanced trail running shoes on the planet, Magnum introduces its new performance-training shoe, the Intrepid HPi.
Designed to support the training requirements for law enforcement and military communities alike, this footwear crosses over to civilian needs as well.
“Our optimized cutting edge technology drives the comfort and stability of the Intrepid HPi,” said Bob Kaiser, Magnum USA CEO. “This is the ultimate performance platform to keep you fit and safe while allowing you to push the boundaries.”
An incredibly lightweight and breathable sports shoe, the Intrepid HPi can handle a broad mix of terrains in the harshest weather, offering plenty of support and allowing the wearer’s foot to feel and adapt to the surface.
“Every foot is different, and this is also true of how the foot articulates,” said Kaiser. “The Intrepid is built to allow the foot to flex much more naturally.”
Featuring the innovative 3D Counter Balance System, Magnum’s new trainers maximize the running gait by correcting pronation for a smoother, straighter center of pressure, thus reducing the likelihood of injury. The Intrepid’s unique Seamless Upper Zone Engineering (S.U.Z.E.) design is built to reduce hot spots and blisters for utmost comfort and support. The shoe also offers Magnum’s ion-mask™ technology, which repels liquids and allows materials to dry quickly while maintain breathability.
