Since Magpul made the move from Colorado to Wyoming and Texas, the company has been adding a steady stream of rifle and duty accessories. The latest release from Magpul is their Core Brand gloves, and this article will focus on the Core Patrol Gloves. Made with lightweight construction, a one-piece, premium leather palm, and reinforcement in all the right places the Core Patrol gloves are rugged enough for the rigors of duty work, but have the finesse to allow touchscreen capability.
Magpul has made a name for themselves in producing high quality, durable, accessories to meet mission requirements. Their success has been attributed by many observers from their innovation and only making products that make practical sense for real-life needs.
Magpul Core Patrol Gloves
Magpul is not the first to produce a high quality patrol glove, and their Core Brand offerings will need to be everything they claim they are (and maybe more) to compete with some of the established glove manufacturers. The Core Patrol gloves do have some very nice features, and appear to be well thought-out from feedback received from those who get their hands dirty for a living. In addition to the Patrol gloves, the Magpul Core glove line includes: Breach, FR Breach, Flight, Ranch and Technical gloves.
There are some features that a true Patrol glove must have to be seriously considered by professionals. The gloves must provide protection to the officer from sharp objects, with at least some level of puncture resistance. This can be accomplished through resistant materials on the palm sides. The gloves need to fit snuggly enough that the officer can draw their handgun and other defensive tools with ease and confidence of grip (second skin feel), yet they need to be comfortable and flexible enough to allow natural movements as well. The gloves should fit well enough that they do not slide around on the officer’s hands during use, but can be donned or doffed easily.
Some secondary considerations are some insulation for warmth in colder weather, as well as water resistance to keep the officer’s hands dry during the wet times. Some officers prefer a tightening strap for a tighter feel, while others do not like that strap at all. Having a leather or other positive contact material on the trigger finger pads is crucial for good trigger control. The back side of the gloves should have breathable material that at least allows some heat and sweat to dissipate. And of course, the price of the gloves must be in a range that can be reasonably attained by most officers. The Magpul Core Patrol Gloves appear to have several of the key features required to be considered for patrol work.

To determine your glove size Magpul recommends the user measure the circumference around their hand just below the knuckles (do not include your thumb) using a string or measuring tape. Measure length of the string and check the sizes above to find the closest match. Magpul gloves are designed to fit snugly. If you prefer a looser fitting glove, you will need to select one size larger than you typically wear.
Final Thoughts
These are brand new gloves from Magpul so we have not been able to test these gloves out to provide the necessary feedback on their wear, comfort, durability, and practicality. However, SHOT Show is just a little over 2 months away and I’m pretty sure these will be on display on the floor.
We’ll do our best to test them out, and see if we can’t get a set for a true T&E. Until then examine the features for yourself and make informed decisions. I feel confident that Magpul will produce a quality product in these Core gloves.
