Sig Sauer added another P227 .45 ACP option this year at SHOT Show. Called the Equinox, this new P227 comes with a 2-tone slide with a nickel/pewter appearance. The Equinox also comes with a polished trigger, hammer, and control levers for those who like their handguns to be more expressive. The combination of the 2-tone slide and polished controls provides a nice contrast for visual effect.
The Sig Sauer P227 Equinox .45ACP is a design from the SIG SAUER Custom Shop master gunsmiths, and appears to be marketed towards shooters who want their handguns to stand out. Though not a pistol I see moving into the duty firearm category, I could definitely see the Equinox being a nice home defense or concealed off-duty carry. The two-tone slide is actually accented Nitron® stainless steel, with brush polished flats and nickel accents. That custom work partially reflects light to add to the contrasting colors and effect.
The 2-tone Equinox slide sits atop a lightweight black, hard-anodized alloy frame. This continued contrast makes the Equinox have an attractive appearance that still portrays a serious “business-like” presence. The P227 takes the classic contrast of black and grey colors to a more elegant level.
Sig Sauer has not released all of the specifications on the Equinox, but it appears to follow the line of the previously released P227 Nitron. The Sig website is wanting, and it appears the MSRP has not been finalized. Here is what we know:

The combination of fiber optic green and traditional night sights provides a great contrast that allows for excellent target acquisition, whether shooting day or night. I expect to see more and more handguns go to this type of contrasting sight set up. Using this set up allows the starkly contrasted front sight to become so much easier for the shooter to find when bringing the handgun onto target.
If a shooter wishes to further enhance their low-light use, the P227 Equinox comes equipped with an accessory rail for adding pistol-mounted lights or lasers. This is a feature that is becoming more and more common among handgun manufacturers and for good cause. Having the ability to mount a weapon light is a critical factor in selecting a handgun. Those who choose pistols without this option are limiting themselves to shooting in the dark, or shooting one-handed while holding a light.
In deadly force situations, that often arise unexpectedly, having the ability to illuminate your target becomes critical. The implications cannot be understated, and the use of a weapon mounted light may be the difference between a justified shoot, and criminal charges.
The P227 Equinox maintains the original P227 DA/SA hammer fired action, and Sig’s famous ergonomic grip. The Equinox will come with standard 10-round magazines, but 14-round extended magazines will also be available. The P227 Equinox will fit most holsters designed for P220R and P226R.
