In this Crosstac Tactical Ambi Sling review, we take a look at a multi-attachment point rifle sling particularly suited for use with patrol rifles. It seems well suited for traditional rifles like the AR-15, SWAT entry sub-machine guns like the HK MP-5 and bullpup guns like the IWI Tavor X95.
There are several carry options when using the Tactical Ambi Sling, and the Crosstac design allows the shooter to quickly adjust the Ambi Sling to the best carry method for their situation. The Tactical Ambi Sling combines a quality nylon strap with a partial bungee cord design.
There are two mounting D-rings, and each end of the sling has a mounting clip. This allows the shooter to decide from two different single-point carry positions, or to attach both clips to the rifle for a more traditional 2-point carry. The quality materials and multi-positional design make this sling an ideal selection for use by Patrol Officers, SWAT, competition shooters, and armed citizens.
Crosstac Tactical Ambi Sling
The Crosstac Tactical Ambi Sling is particularly designed for shooters facing more dynamic shooting scenarios. Crosstac views the sling as “the fundamental connection between your body and the rifle.” In many ways this statement is correct. Though a shooter may fire a rifle accurately without a sling, having a quality purpose-built sling is extremely important to being able to carry out the overall mission. A good sling allows the shooter to go hands-on, stand post for hours, march or patrol longer distances without fatigue to arms, and in shooting situations can provide additional support for more accurate and precision shooting.
When using the Crosstac Tactical Ambi Sling the shooter has the option of single-point or two-point carry, an exceptionally good idea for tactical officer and patrol rifle officers. Transitions are quickly made by the intuitive and simple push-in attachment clips design. There are two attachment D-rings on one end of the sling, allowing the user to decide on the single-point carry method that works best for their particular situation. In addition, the user can spread out the attachment clips to adjust the Tactical Ambi Sling into a 2-point rifle attachment as well. There are slide adjustment rings on the nylon portion of the sling to micro-adjust the fit to the particular shooter.
Crosstac includes a high-quality, flat “limited bungee” design to the Tactical Ambi Sling. This bungee is perfect for moderating length of pull (LOP) distances between a variety of different sized shooters. In addition, the bungee helps reduce the shock of the rifle’s weight during movement, by absorbing some of the motion and weight through the bungee tension strength.
During shooting situations the bungee can be stretched about 6-inches into a locked out position for a solid shooting platform, and provides ample room for transitions between strong and support shoulder, without compromising hang distance when the rifle is not in use. The bungee is short enough to allow sling support when shooting from a 2-point sling configuration as well. Crosstac claims the bungee will never break down.

One end of the Tactical Ambi Sling has a short, 6-inch section that further divides the sling by a detachable clip. When the user attaches the non-rifle mounting end of the Ambi Sling on the highest D-ring (above the detachable clip) they will have a slightly shorter single-point attachment carry. However, if a shooter needs to separate themselves from their rifle quickly, they can quickly detach the short 6-inch section using the detachable clip. The 6-inch section is attached to the rifle with the metal attachment clip and stays with the rifle. The rest of the sling remains with the shooter. Reattaching the rifle is accomplished very quickly and easily by simply re-inserting the detachable clip into its receiver.
This detachable design is perfect for when job responsibilities change, there is a need to maneuver over/under/through obstacles, breaks during training, getting in and out of vehicles (particularly cars), or other reasons. During these times the shooter can maintain the desired sling carry method while removing the rifle’s bulk and weight. When the need or opportunity arises for shooting, the user simply reattached the rifle at the clip and they’re good to go. No more trying to wiggle into the sling in critical moments, or having the sling get tangled up on gear or environmental obstacles.
Adjusting from single-point to 2-point attachment is relatively easy as well. The shooter attaches the non-bungee side metal attachment clip on the furthest mounting point of the rifle near the barrel. Then the bungee-side metal attachment clip is attached to the buttstock mounting point. This can be accomplished relatively quickly, and easily, with the simple push-in metal attachment clip design. A 2-point sling carry is much nicer for long durations of carrying the rifle, as it can be slung over a shoulder and moved out of the way. There are also ways to wrap a sling around the support arm when in a 2-point mounting configuration, to allow a solid shooting brace.
Should the shooter get entangled in gear or environmental obstacles in the 2-point configuration, the detachment clip allows the shooter to free themselves. This is particularly important in CQB situations where an adversary might grab the officer’s rifle and attempt to use the sling as a choking instrument. In a worst-case scenario, the officer can depress the detachment clip and the whole rifle and sling will fall away.
The Crosstac Tactical Ambi Sling is 100% made in the USA and comes in black, coyote brown, and olive drab.
Final Thoughts
The Crosstac Tactical Ambi Sling is a well designed and purpose-built rifle sling. The features are particularly suited for those who carry patrol rifles and enter into CQB situations. The attachment clips are well-built and easily manipulated. The D-ring design with detachable section provides a great feature for mounting and dismounting the rifle. The limited flat bungee provides ample extension to transition from strong to support shoulder, but not too much space to create a sling that is too long for carry options. Materials appear to be top-notch, and we can recommend the Crosstac Tactical Ambi Sling for duty use.
We have two of the Crosstac precision rifle squeeze bags in use and will be doing a review of them in the near future. They too are of great quality, practical use, and craftsmanship.
